Pootatuck River

Description:

The Pootatuck River segment runs from Church Hill Rd. in Sandy Hook to Commerce Rd. in Newtown, along one of the best trout streams in CT.

Highlights:

The Pootatuck River is one of eight Class A-1 trout streams in Connecticut.

115 volunteers led by organizers Dr. Patricia Barkman, James Belden and Joe Hovious of Trout Unlimited, planted over 300 trees along the confluences of Deep Brook, Pootatuck and Tom Brook in 2004.

In 2006, a similar group of trees were planted funded by the Newtown Tree Project and planted by the children of Reed School.
